Annual Auction

The Roamin Club's Auction is a fun family event featuring rocks, minerals, crystals and fossils from all over the world. Plus slabs and cabs for jewelry making, and finished jewelry. Over 1,000 commercially obtained items are auctioned each year.

Every Spring, the Roamin Club's rock and mineral Auction raises money for a scholarship fund at a local college. The Auction is a two-day event that is perfect for both avid mineral collectors and families with children interested in science. The Roamin Club is looking forward to it's 50th auction in 2023.
The dates of the 2023 Roamin Club Auction are March 4th and 5th
The Auction is held at Schoolcraft College in Livonia, Michigan. You must be physically present at the auction to participate in bidding. Payment is by cash or check only. No credit or debit cards.

2023 Construction Note

The Auction is held at the VisTaTech Center Building at Schoolcraft College, 18600 Haggerty Rd, Livonia, Michigan. The VisTaTech Center is being renovated and the main entrance to the building is closed. You may use either the South entrance or the East entrance to the building.
  • Visitors can still park in the main large parking lot North of the VisTaTech Center and enter the building through the East entrance. However, this entrance is not handicapped accessible. There is signage directing you from the large parking lot to the East entrance.
  • Handicapped parking has been relocated to a new, permanent parking lot to the Southwest of VisTaTech. A sidewalk leads to the South entrance of the VisTaTech Center. You may enter the new parking lot off of Haggerty.

How does the rock & mineral auction work?

There are 3 auctions each hour, all with good buys. It's intended to be fun and informal.
1. Silent Auction
  • Every hour the Silent auction has about 50 specimens on a group of tables that you walk around.
  • Each specimen is identified and has a sheet of paper with a minimum bid listed at the top.
  • You must start with at least the minimum bid and increase by at least 50 cents.
  • You keep walking around and bidding until a bell rings to end auction.
  • The person with the last bid on the sheet buys specimen for that price.
  • Auction lasts about 20 minutes.

2. Mini Silent Auction
  • The Mini silent auction is perfect for the young mineral or fossil collector and for anyone entering the hobby.
  • The Mini silent auction works the same as the other Silent Auction, but includes low priced "starter" rocks.
  • Minimum bids are usually less than $1 with 10 cent bid increases.
3. Oral Auction
  • The Oral auction specimens are more expensive, and higher quality than the silent auction items.
  • Oral auction has about 10 - 15 items each hour.
  • You can preview items in a showcase for up to 3 hours ahead of time.
  • Simply raise your hand to bid - it's very informal.
  • Oral auction lasts less than 30 minutes.
  • Still have questions?  Oral Auction bidding instructions (downloads PDF)

  • Mini silent auction minimum bids range from about 10 cents to $1.
